We’re thrilled to share that Story Hill Renovations was recently featured in OnMilwaukee’s Urban Spelunking by Bobby Tanzilo, spotlighting our work on a 1922 architect-designed English Revival Tudor on Milwaukee’s East Side. This home, originally crafted by Clas, Shepherd & Clas, offers no shortage of breathtaking detail from vaulted Gothic plaster ceilings to gracefully curved dining-room crown molding, and its latest chapter honors every bit of that legacy.
For the homeowners, the vision was clear: “punk rock country club.” A blend of heritage, energy, and individuality that respects the past while confidently stepping into the future.
That philosophy guided every decision. Story Hill Renovations modernized the kitchen and bathrooms with craftsmanship that feels true to the original architecture, while letting personality shine in elements that can evolve over time, like unexpected wallpaper, modern lighting, and updated tilework that nods to the home’s period style without replicating it outright.
“We try not to change what makes these homes special,” says Story Hill Interior Designer Karly Mandell. “Our goal is to modernize today’s lifestyle without erasing the past.”
Behind the scenes, the renovation required precision, collaboration, and respect for century-old craftsmanship, whether cantilevering a new primary bath without disturbing ornate plaster below or designing new millwork that feels authentically historic.
