This Wauwatosa home renovation shows how remodeling several connected spaces at once can transform the way a family lives throughout the house. The renovation touched nearly every hardworking space in the home, including the kitchen, mudroom, dining room, staircase, basement, powder room, and connecting hallway. At the center of the original floor plan, an obsolete chimney occupied valuable space and restricted the kitchen layout. Our team made the structural changes needed to remove the chimney, open the kitchen, and improve circulation between the surrounding rooms. The reconfigured main floor provides more space for cooking, storage, gathering, and entertaining while maintaining the original flow and architectural character of the home. The design gives the growing family more room to gather and move comfortably through daily routines. For homeowners considering a major renovation in Wauwatosa or Milwaukee, this project demonstrates how a comprehensive approach can solve several layout challenges while creating a unified, enduring design for long-term living.
The redesigned kitchen became the center of this whole-home remodel, with an open layout that improves sightlines and creates a natural connection to the dining room. A mudroom adds organized storage near the family’s entry, helping contain shoes, coats, bags, and seasonal gear. Updates to the staircase improve movement between floors and visually connect the home’s renovated spaces. Downstairs, the finished basement turns underused square footage into flexible living space for relaxing, playing, and spending time together, giving the family room to grow without leaving the neighborhood they love. The powder room completes the renovation with floral wallpaper, updated plumbing fixtures, vintage-inspired lighting, a streamlined mirror, and a green medicine cabinet that adds storage and personality. Together, these coordinated improvements create a home that feels more open, functional, and cohesive. Story Hill Renovations helps Milwaukee-area homeowners plan complex, multi-room renovations that respect a home’s architecture while supporting modern family life.
