Beverly Residence

The kitchen of this 1912 Shorewood house had been remodeled years ago to make use of a compact area but was cramped and oddly shaped. Working with the owner, we designed a kitchen renovation that created a dramatically different — and dramatically more functional — space.

The kitchen was taken down to its studs. We removed a door and moved walls to make space for a large kitchen island whose stained custom cabinetry and black quartz countertop contrast with the surrounding white cabinetry and countertops.

We enlarged the doorway to the family room to create even more spaciousness and designed a built-in bench for windows in the east wall. The original birch-wood floor, still intact under the tile, was stained to match the rest of the first floor. The new kitchen also features high-end appliances and conveniences such as a transitional convection steam oven. Exposed brick from the restored original chimney adds a unique accent to a modern kitchen design.
