2017 Award Winner
This 1930s bathroom was the only full bathroom in this home for many years and the claustrophobic space was not serving this family of four anymore. The homeowners wanted to open the bathroom up and add a standing shower alongside the bathtub. The main goal was to create the look of a larger bathroom within the existing walls. We converted the bathroom door to a pocket door. We turned the linen closet into the standing shower and removed the alcove above the tub.
One of the statement pieces of the bathroom is the hand-cut marble herringbone floor. The bathroom features both oil rubbed bronze and brushed bronze finishes. The client wanted to keep the laundry chute so we used a floor grate to conceal the opening. By making a couple changes, we were able to take this bathroom from confined to beautifully breathable. This bathroom was a finalist in M Magazine’s Readers Choice Award.
